Spent $45 on a hypebeast book club and got 3 blank notebooks instead
Joined this literary subscription thing that was all over my feed, yknow the one where they promise curated picks that'll "break your heart and rebuild it." Thought okay, fine, treat myself. $45 for a mystery box of emotions. What showed up: three hardcover journals, all blank, plus a letter telling me to "write my own devastation." My guy, I paid for YOUR trauma. I can freewrite about my dental insurance nightmares for free. Anyone else get scammed by one of these overpriced book boxes? What was your worst bang for your buck?

Hear me out, but I think you actually got the better end of that deal. $45 for three notebooks is basically $15 a pop, which is a steal for decent paper, and the letter is a pretty smart prompt. Most book clubs send you a book you could've grabbed at the library for free, and then you're stuck with a book you never actually vibe with. I did one of those "mood reader" boxes once and got a 600 page fantasy novel about a goblin accountant, I would've paid double for a blank page to write "refund please" on. Plus, your version lets you skip the middleman, you already got the misery, you just need a place to put it. Worst bang for my buck was a $60 subscription that sent me nothing but bookmarks with slogans like "read more, sleep less," and those things fell apart in a week.
