Spent $35 on a used copy of Flowers for Algernon and it wrecked me for a week
I saw it at a thrift store in Portland for $35 and thought it was just some old sci-fi book. Read it in one sitting on a Tuesday night and I was ugly crying by page 80, no joke. The way it talks about intelligence and happiness just hit me in a place I didn't expect. Has anyone else had a cheap used book hit way harder than something full price?

Slaughterhouse Five was two bucks at a garage sale and I sat in my car for an hour after finishing it, just staring at the steering wheel. Cheap books hit different, like they're sneaking up on you.

Right? Is it just me or do the beat-up old paperbacks hit so much harder? I found "The Road" for a dollar at a library sale. Read it in one shift at work. Sat in the break room after clocking out, just staring at the wall. There's something about a worn spine and dog-eared pages that makes the story feel more real. Like it's already lived a life before it got to you.
