Rant: a guy at a coffee shop in Denver told me he rereads one book a year on purpose and it kind of wrecked me
I was sitting at a table near the window at a place on South Broadway in Denver about two weeks ago and these two guys next to me were talking about reading. One of them said he only reads one book a year and just starts it over again in January, and he's done that with the same book for 11 years now. I almost laughed at first because that sounded so boring to me, I finish maybe 20 books a year and I'm always chasing the next one. But he said something like "the book doesn't change, I do, so it ends up being a different book each time." I finished The Road by Cormac McCarthy about 6 months ago and it wrecked me for days, and now I'm wondering what it would do to me if I read it again at 45 instead of 33. My whole shelf is full of books I blew through once and never touched again, and I can't tell if that guy is a genius or just really patient. Does anyone here actually reread stuff on purpose, or do you all just move on like me?
