My sister's 2 AM reading confession made me rethink an old favorite

Last weekend my sister mentioned she'd read 'The Road' three times and never cried once, which completely threw me because I ugly cried for like 20 minutes straight on my first read. She said she saw it as a survival handbook, not a tragedy, and that the dad's decisions were just logical moves to her. I've spent a week going back through the sections where they find the bunker and the boat, and honestly now I'm seeing the cold math in it too. It's weird how one conversation can flip a book you thought you had figured out for 10 years. Anyone else had a take from a friend or family member that made you question your whole emotional reaction to a story? Usually I just stick to my gut, but this one is sticking with me.

Stop overthinking this. So your sister read it like a robot, big deal, people process stuff different. You cried because you felt the story, she read it like a checklist, neither one is wrong. But dont let her flip your whole take just because she got weirdly clinical about a dad dragging his kid through hell. Honestly sounds like she missed the whole point of the book if she calls it a survival handbook, that things way more about love and despair than logistics. Stick with your gut, you were right the first time.
