Mom handed me her copy of A Little Life in 2019 and said I'd thank her for it
I cried for 3 days straight and still bring it up at every family dinner, so maybe not the thank you she expected. Did anyone else get a book pushed on them by a loved one that wrecked you in ways you're still mad about?
Went through something similar when my sister gave me The Road and told me it was a beautiful father son story. I spent the whole last chapter sobbing on my couch while my husband pretended not to notice. Three years later I still can't look at that book without feeling a pit in my stomach. Your mom owes you an apology and maybe a funny movie night to make up for it.
