Just realized a book from 3 years ago still messes with me
I picked up "The Looming Tower" last month stuck in an airport in Dallas. It was about the lead up to 9/11 and man it hit different than I expected. Finished it on the flight home and I couldn't sleep that night just thinking about how things connect. Has anyone else had a nonfiction book haunt them longer than any novel?

...and that's exactly what happened to my friend Kate with this book about the Donner Party. She got it from a library sale thinking it'd be just another history read, but it completely messed her up for weeks. She kept talking about how the people in that story made these tiny decisions that snowballed into this giant disaster, and she couldn't stop seeing parallels to her own life choices. Like she'd be at the grocery store and suddenly get weirdly emotional over canned goods, which is super not like her at all. I swear she still brings it up sometimes, especially when the weather gets cold.

Thirty-two people made it out, and Kate's probably rethinking her whole 401k over it.
