I used to finish every sad book in one night, now I sit with them for weeks
Five years ago I read A Little Life in two sittings and bragged about it like it was a flex. Now I'm three weeks into a 400 page one and I keep putting it down on purpose, just to sit with what happened in the last chapter. I think the change came when I rushed through a book about a family losing their mom in Ohio and realized two days later I couldn't remember any of their names. These days I read 20 pages, close it, and let it sit. Does anyone else slow down on the heavy stuff on purpose, or am I just getting soft?
