Finally got through 'A Little Life' after 8 months of putting it down
I started this book last January and kept having to stop because it was just too heavy. Every time I picked it up I'd make it maybe 30 pages before I had to walk away. It took me 8 months to finish because I'd read a chapter and then need a week to recover. The part with Jude in the bathtub scene at page 480 hit me so hard I put it down for a full month. Has anyone else had a book they physically couldn't read in one stretch?

Man, I gotta be honest I don't get the hype. People act like this book is some kind of emotional endurance test. Yeah it's sad but it's fiction. You can always just close the book and walk away. I read it in like two weeks and didn't find the bathtub scene that shocking. Maybe I'm just cold hearted but all the suffering in that book felt kind of put on you know? Like the author was trying too hard to make you cry. Did you actually enjoy the experience or was it just a chore to finish?
