Appreciation post: the used bookstore by the courthouse never misses
Dropped in before jury duty last month and found a beat-up copy of The Road with someone's coffee ring on page 112, almost like a marker for the worst part. Has anyone else had a random used copy hit harder because of some stranger's wear and tear?

That coffee ring is like a bookmark from a stranger who was just as wrecked by that part as you were. Heard a podcast once about how annotations in used books are basically a conversation across time, and it stuck with me. Same book, same stain, different person, but somehow the weight of it lands harder when you know you're not alone in the feeling.
