Why does nobody talk about how long grain direction takes to figure out

I spent a whole afternoon on a simple clamshell box, only to realize my bookcloth was cut the wrong way and it wouldn't fold right at the hinge. It took me 3 tries and a trip to the fabric store to finally get it straight. Has anyone else had this drive them crazy, or am I just slow?

Ngl I watched a video about this recently and they were saying how clamshell boxes actually require way more precision than people realize. The folding alone is a nightmare to get right without it looking janky.
