Unpopular opinion: that expensive brass finishing press everyone drools over is a waste for most of us
I get why people love them but my $60 cast iron book press from a farm auction in Iowa does the same job on my small runs. Two weeks back I was pressing a set of 12 case bindings and my cheap press held the blocks flat with no warping, while a buddy waited 3 months for his fancy brass one to ship. The real trick is even pressure and letting the books sit overnight, not the price tag on your gear. If you're doing fine binding full time, sure, spend the money, but for the rest of us the hype is just hype. Anyone here ditched the high end press and never looked back?
