Unexpected shift in my bookcloth texture after switching to wheat paste
I’ve been using PVA for years on bookcloth, but last month I tried wheat paste for a custom rebind of a 1920s poetry collection in St. Paul. The cloth got this slight toothiness that made the cover feel more substantial, like the grain really popped. Has anyone else found that adhesive choice changes how the cloth feels under your fingers?

Last time I switched adhesives I accidentally grabbed my wife's fancy organic flour instead of standard wheat paste and ended up with a book that smells like a bakery. It's been three weeks and I swear the texture keeps getting better though.

Happened to me with rice paste once, grabbed the sushi rice flour by mistake. Book turned out fine but now every humid day it smells like a takeout order. Pretty sure my cat thinks it's a snack.
