Tried using a wallpaper seam roller for book hinges, big mistake
So I thought I'd save $15 and use a wallpaper seam roller I had in the garage instead of buying a proper bone folder for pressing down hinges. Rolled it over a new leather hinge and it left a deep groove line right through the middle of the spine. Took me 20 minutes to steam and press it back out. Anyone else try a random tool from around the house and regret it?

Oh man, I watched my buddy try to use a metal pizza cutter as a bookbinding knife one time. He managed to slice right through his hinge AND his mat in two seconds flat.

Read a forum post where someone used a drywall knife to trim bookcloth and it tore the whole edge off in one pull. Not the same but same energy. These specialty tools exist for a reason I guess.
