That day my sewing frame snapped mid-signature at my dining room table

I was about halfway through sewing a 300-page text block in my apartment in Austin, and my cheap wooden sewing frame just cracked clean in half. I had to rig up a quick replacement using my grandma's old quilting hoop and some binder clips, which actually held strong for the last 3 signatures. Anyone else ever had to MacGyver a fix in the middle of a project?

That quilting hoop save is actually genius (I've got one of my grandma's old ones too). Never thought about using binder clips that way for extra grip on the spine.

My grandma's hoop is ancient, like from the 50s maybe. Wood is all warped but still works. I actually tried that binder clip trick last month on a really stubborn paperback. Clipped three along the spine and it held flat way better than my hands could. Felt like a total hack but it worked. Now I keep a pack of those little clips in my sewing kit just for book repairs.
