Saw a 400 year old book at the Morgan Library in NYC and the sewing gave me ideas
Was in New York last month and wandered into the Morgan Library on a whim. They had a 1620s folio on display and what caught my eye was how evenly the sections sat, no bulging at all. I stood there way too long trying to figure out if they rounded the spine before or after sewing. Made me want to try a shallower shoulder on my next rebind. Anyone here ever worked from old examples like that, and did it change how you set your own shoulders?
