My partner swore by using a $5 wallpaper brush for applying paste
I always used a proper paste brush from the art store, thought his idea was a joke. Tried it on a small repair job for a 1920s copy of 'The Great Gatsby' and the coverage was actually smoother with less streaking. Has anyone else found a weirdly perfect tool for a specific bind?

Honestly, it's just a brush. If it gets paste on the paper, it works. I've used a cheap foam roller from the hardware store for big jobs and it was fine. Sometimes the fancy tools are just for feeling like you did it the right way.

Right? I've used a butter knife before and it worked fine.

Evan saying "fancy tools are just for feeling like you did it the right way" really hit me... Reminds me of the time I tried to use a kitchen spatula to spread paste on a big poster project in college. It left these weird ridges everywhere and I spent an hour trying to smooth them out with my fingers. Ended up looking like a modern art piece instead of the map I was going for.

Evan's got a point, it's like how people think you need a special knife to chop an onion but a regular one works just fine. Makes you wonder how many "must have" things are really just about making us feel like we know what we're doing.
