My neighbor told me to use a bone folder for scoring, not a butter knife
She saw me trying to fold heavy paper with a kitchen knife and just shook her head. I bought a cheap bone folder from the craft store for about five bucks and tried it on some book board last night. The crease is so much cleaner and I didn't rip the surface layer. Anyone have a favorite brand for these, or is the basic one good enough?

Yeah, the cheap ones work fine until you get really into it.

alice991's story about the cheap bone folder snapping is exactly why I refuse to pay more than $5 for one. I've been using the same dollar store one for like six years now and it's still going. If you're scoring leather, sure, maybe a Teflon one makes sense, but for basic paper and cardstock, the cheap ones are fine. You're overthinking this. People act like you need a $30 tool for folding paper and it's ridiculous.

My basic one from Michaels snapped on me last year... I ended up getting a Teflon one from Lineco and it's been a total game changer for scoring leather.
