My first flatback case took 6 hours, should have been 2

Last Saturday I tried making a flatback case for a 9x6 journal and the corners fought me the whole way. I thought I had the cloth measurements right but the turn-ins kept buckling, so I cut two fresh pieces before I got the hang of it. The hinge gap also ended up uneven, took me three tries with the bone folder to get it seated right. Is there a trick for measuring the board placement that saves time, or do you all just accept the first few cases being slow?

Mark the board corners with tape before gluing, saved me an hour.
