Hit 200 spine repairs this semester, here's what surprised me

I kept a tally while fixing paperbacks for my classroom library and stopped counting at 200 repairs since August. What got me was that most breaks weren't at the hinge like I expected, they were right in the middle of the text block, usually where a kid folded the book open flat. My go-to fix used to be just glue along the spine, but that only lasted a week or two. Now I reinforce those middle sections with a thin strip of cloth tape before gluing, and the school's hardest-used copies are holding up way better. Anyone else track their repair counts and notice a weird pattern like that?

Those middle breaks mean kids are reading deeper into the book, so that's actually a win.
