Changed my mind about those expensive bone folders after 8 years

I always said a cheap plastic bone folder works just as well as a $30 one. Picked up a cheap 3 pack on Amazon and used them for years without complaint. Then a friend let me borrow her nice Japanese bone folder last month and I felt the difference immediately. It smoothed out a leather hinge in one pass that I usually have to fight with for minutes. Still not sure I'll spend the money but I get why people do now. Anyone else have a tool they brushed off until they tried the real thing?

Nah man I gotta disagree here. I've been using a cheap plastic folder for years too and it does the job just fine for me. Maybe I'm just not as picky or maybe my projects aren't as demanding but I haven't felt like I'm missing anything. I think once you start spending that kind of money on a tool you kinda trick yourself into thinking it's better because you paid for it. I'll stick with my $6 set, it's never let me down.

Funny enough my cheap set finally cracked on me last month, so maybe there's something to the upgrade.
