Caught my press tearing up a first edition yesterday, full panic mode
I was in my basement trying to rebind an old 1890s copy of a poetry collection for a client, and about halfway through the spine work the press jaws shifted and started creasing the title page. I stopped everything, yanked the book out, and spent 20 minutes carefully flattening the crease with a bone folder and some light moisture. It left a faint line you can only see at an angle, but the client has no idea and I'm scared to tell them. Has anyone else had a near disaster like this and just patched it quietly, or did you come clean about it?
