Appreciation post: the $60 bone folder I almost didn't buy just saved a 200 page rebind
I picked up a real bone folder about 6 months ago at a shop in Toledo for 60 bucks, and I thought it was too much for a piece of bone. Last month I was rebinding a 200 page book with thick signatures and my old plastic folder was creasing the paper wrong, leaving little shiny marks. I switched to the bone one and it glided through the folds without a single mark. The weight and feel made the work faster too, maybe 20 minutes saved per signature. I get that 60 is a lot, but for anyone doing more than a few books a year, it's worth it. What's your go to tool that you thought was overpriced but turned out to be a lifesaver?
