Warning: a seller at a garage sale in Akron called my book haul "all junk" and it changed how I buy
Two summers ago I filled a box with 14 paperbacks at a garage sale in Akron and the old guy running it said, "those are all junk, nobody reads that stuff." I paid $5 and left feeling weird about it. After that I started checking the last page for print numbers and flipping to the copyright page before I buy anything used. Now I skip books with no print run listed, which means my haul is smaller but I actually read what I bring home. Is it smart to pass on cheap books just because a stranger's comment stuck with me, or am I overthinking a $5 box?
