The 1930s book that mentioned a hobby I thought was modern

Found a 1935 guide to amateur radio at an estate sale in Portland and it had a whole chapter on building crystal sets, which I always figured was a 1960s thing, so has anyone else been surprised by how old a hobby actually is when you dig through old books?

Remember crystal sets actually go back to the early 1900s, way before the 60s, so that book's not even that old-school.
