Showerthought: the used book guy in Portland quoted me $12 for a hardcover and I almost walked
He said check the copyright page first because book club editions look like firsts but say so right on it, and sure enough the $12 book was a 1998 Book of the Month pick while the ugly $3 paperback next to it was a true first printing, so now I flip to that page before I pay for anything.
