Finally finished that 1980s sci-fi set I hunted for 8 months

I found the last two paperbacks from an old trilogy at a flea market in Columbus last Saturday for $1.50 each, after driving to three different used book stores every other weekend since March. The final book had a coffee stain on page 214 that I actually love, because it makes the whole thing feel lived in. Has anyone else spent way too long chasing down a complete series, or do you just grab whatever's on the shelf and move on?

The trick that finally worked for me was setting up a saved search on a couple of book selling sites and just letting them email me whenever something matched. Took about five months, but then three of the four books I needed showed up within two weeks of each other. Also, telling my local used book store owner what I was after turned out to be gold, he started pulling stuff aside for me before it even hit the shelf. That coffee stain thing is real, too. My copy of the second book has a torn corner on the cover and I wouldn't trade it for a mint one. It's got a story before I even read it.
