Drove 40 minutes to a garage sale for a box of 1970s sci-fi paperbacks and the lady sold them to someone else while I was parked
Honestly I saw the ad Sunday morning for a sale out in Dearborn and the photo showed a full box of old Asimov and Bradbury paperbacks for a dollar each, so I grabbed my keys and went. Took me 40 minutes with traffic, and I parked right as some guy was walking off with the whole box under his arm. I asked the lady what happened and she just shrugged and said "you're the third one to ask, he got here at 6." Ngl I stood there for a minute and then spotted a stack of old Hardy Boys hardcovers for 50 cents each so I grabbed those instead. Has anyone else beaten to a sale like that, and do you just leave or wait around for the next wave of stuff?
The real question is whether that Hardy Boys stack was actually worth the trip or just a sad consolation prize. Would you have still bought them if you hadn't driven all that way?
