Took a hard stance against romance novels for years until my book club picked one last February

I spent the whole month grumbling about it but by chapter 3 I was hooked and now I've secretly read 12 more since then, has anyone else been blindsided by a genre they swore they hated?

Same thing happened to me with reality TV. Swore it was garbage until someone made me watch one episode. Now I own opinions on people I'll never meet.

Funny how that works. I did the same thing with podcasts, swore they were just people rambling into a mic with no point. Then I found one about abandoned buildings and now I spend hours listening to someone describe rusted factories I'll never visit. It's like we need someone to pick the lock on our stubbornness.

The same thing happened with me and fantasy books. I used to roll my eyes at people reading about dragons and magic. Then someone handed me a book set in a world with a complicated magic system. Three days later I had finished it and bought the next four in the series. Now I have a whole shelf dedicated to that genre and I still tell people it's not my thing. It's kind of embarrassing how fast I caved.
