TIL reading the last chapter first ruined my group's discussion track

My book club fights about this every time. Last month I got tired of guessing where a thriller was headed, so I flipped to the last chapter after page 50. It totally changed how I saw the clues and I actually caught stuff nobody else noticed during the meeting. Three people got mad and said I cheated, but two others tried it for our current book and liked it. Has anyone else tried skipping ahead like this or is my group just weird about rules?

That thing about knowing the ending to relax and watch the movie is SO true. I've noticed this pattern EVERYWHERE in life, not just with books. Like people who check the weather app before a hike or read reviews before a restaurant visit. We all want to control the experience somehow. It's like some brains need to map out the whole path before they can enjoy the walk. Your book club's just bumping into that deep down human thing where we disagree on how much surprise we need to feel alive.

Man that's just how some people enjoy things differently, like how some folks have to know the ending of a movie before they can relax and actually watch it.
