The big shift I saw in my book club's fiction picks over 2 years
Our group used to almost always go for thrillers and crime novels, but the last 8 books we picked have all been quiet character studies or literary fiction. I wonder if it's because we all got burned out on twist endings during the pandemic, or if there's some other reason. Has anyone else's book club made a similar turn away from plot driven stuff and toward slower, more introspective reads?

Our group hit the exact same wall about 18 months ago after one too many "gotcha" endings. My suggestion is to pick one book that blends both styles, like something by Fredrik Backman, to test the waters before you commit fully. That way you don't lose the people who still crave a little plot momentum. Also, try rotating who picks the book each month so everyone gets a turn at choosing something they actually want to read. It keeps the group from drifting too far into one lane.
