Shoutout to that time my book club pick crashed hard

Picked "Cloud Atlas" for October 2023 thinking it'd be deep. Showed up at Linda's place and half the group hadn't finished it. Too many timelines confused everyone. Spent the whole night defending my choice then switched us to shorter novels from then on. Anyone else have a pick that bombed?

Man oh man, that brings me back. I once picked "Infinite Jest" for a summer reading group thinking we'd all bond over the footnotes. Half the room showed up with bookmarks still stuck at page 50 and the other half just brought snacks and admitted they watched the movie version of something else. We ended up arguing about the best way to fold laundry for an hour instead.
