Picked the hardcover over the paperback for my book club's next read and it backfired
I had to choose between a $32 hardcover and a $14 paperback for our group's discussion on 'Project Hail Mary' and I went with the hardcover because it has cool illustrations. Three members complained about the cost and two others said they'll just wait for the library copy, so now half the group won't have the book by our meeting next Friday. How do you handle pricey picks when your club has members on different budgets?

Three members complained about the cost and two others said they'll just wait for the library copy" - that's rough, I'd be pretty shocked if over half my club bailed on the pick. It sounds like you were trying to do something nice with the illustrations, but the price is just too much for some folks. Maybe next time check in with everyone first before picking the expensive version.

$85 is steep, I had the same thing happen with my group last year @evaperez.
