Our club used to vote on books by raising hands, now we use a shared list
For years, we'd just shout out ideas at the end of a meeting and do a quick show of hands, which meant the loudest voices always won. About six months ago, after a heated debate over picking a sci-fi book, someone suggested a Google Doc where we all add titles with a short reason. Now, we add to it all month and vote by putting a star next to our top three choices before the next meeting. It's way more fair and we end up with books nobody would have spoken up for in person. Has your group changed how you pick what to read next?

Oh, that's a smart fix. My friend's gardening club had the same problem with picking plants for their shared plot. They switched to a secret ballot in a shoebox and suddenly got way more interesting flowers.

Actually, a secret ballot is a great idea but it's not about getting more interesting flowers. It's about people feeling safe to vote for what they really want without peer pressure. That's the real win, @murray.betty.
