Our club split down the middle on whether to reread a book before the meeting

We picked The Remains of the Day for our November meetup here in Boise, and half of us wanted a quick reread first while the other half said discuss it cold. I went with the reread and honestly it backfired, I came in with 12 pages of notes while everyone else just talked about the ending. Now I can't tell if I overprepared or if the cold readers missed half the book. Which camp are you in, notes and all, or first impressions only?
