Our club picked a 700 page book and half the group quit by chapter 4, so I looked up how many people actually finish
We voted on a doorstopper for our March meetup in Sacramento, and only 4 of the 11 of us made it past chapter 4 before the discussion. I got curious and found a study from the Pew Research Center showing about 1 in 4 adults say they have not read a single book in the past year, which made me wonder why we keep picking bricks instead of short novels. Do your clubs set a page limit before voting, or do you just let the group pick whatever and deal with the dropouts?
Ha, this is like gym memberships in January, people love the idea more than the doing. Our group finally set a soft cap around 400 pages after a similar mess, and turnout got way better. Your mileage may vary, but a page limit at least keeps the vote honest.
