My book club pick totally bombed last month
I chose "The Goldfinch" for our October meeting thinking everyone would love that Pulitzer winner. Turned out half the group hated the 700+ pages and the other half just skimmed it. Two people straight up said they couldn't finish it and brought a different book to discuss instead. The debate turned into a 40 minute argument about whether Donna Tartt needed an editor. Has anyone else picked a book that completely flopped with your group?

The Goldfinch" honestly needed a ruthless editor with scissors and a red pen.

Defend The Goldfinch here. @mia_anderson you're wrong about the editing thing. The length is what makes it feel real, like you're actually living through Theo's messy life with him.
