Hated the slow-burn book club pick, now it's my favorite this year

I was dead set against The Name of the Wind when our club voted on it back in February. Too long, too flowery, I said it was wasting everyone's time. Then around page 200 I caught myself reading during lunch breaks at the warehouse in Toledo, which I never do. What got me was the silence between the action scenes. Kvothe just sitting in the forest, no big plot, just details about the world settling in. It clicked that the pacing I hated was the point, the book wants you to feel that slow build like a patient load on a truck. I finished it in 9 days and now I'm the guy arguing for the sequel next month. Anyone else flip on a pick after giving it past the first 100 pages?
