Dropped $90 on a deluxe edition of a book I hated
I spent $90 on a signed deluxe edition of that big fantasy novel everyone raved about, thinking it would be my new favorite. After forcing myself through 400 pages, I realized the hype was just marketing and the writing was mediocre. Has anyone else wasted money on a hyped book and regretted it?

That "big fantasy novel" line got me because I did the same thing with a cult classic that everyone swore was genius. I even bought the fancy edition with the map printed on the inside cover, ended up using it as a doorstop after chapter three.

That cult classic's map was better than the book too, but I actually liked the slow parts.
