Debate: Does a page count really matter for book club picks?

I was picking our next book club read and stumbled on a stat that surprised me. According to a 2023 survey from Book Riot, 62% of readers say they avoid books over 400 pages for group discussions. Half our club hates long reads, the other half thinks shorter books are shallow. Where do you land on this? Does page count kill a good book club debate?

Honestly, are y'all really losing sleep over how many pages a book has?

Can't say I've ever tracked page counts myself, but I've definitely judged a book by its cover once or twice. These days I'm just proud if I remember where I left my reading glasses, let alone how many pages something has. Sleep is for people who don't spend an hour looking for their phone while they're holding it.
