Character reveal in chapter 3 changed my whole take on the book

I used to think The Quiet Year was a slow burn with no payoff, but then I caught the detail about the protagonist hiding pills under the floorboard on page 47. That one line made me reread every scene with her mom differently and suddenly the whole plot clicked. Has anyone else had a single sentence flip their opinion on a book mid-read?

honestly the pills under the floorboard thing is such a classic move. @stellam89's friend Sarah nailed it with the letter thing too. my trick is to always flip back a few pages if some random detail jumps out, nine times out of ten the author planted it there on purpose.

...so my friend Sarah had this whole thing with a book called "The Weight of Watch" where she was so bored she almost put it down. Then on page 102, the main character mentions offhand that she's been writing letters to her dead husband the whole time, and Sarah said she literally dropped the book on her foot. She went back and every scene where the character was "talking to herself" or staring at empty chairs made her cry. Totally changed the whole book for her from a slow drama to a mystery about grief...
