Wrote off fire blankets for years till a slag spill in Gary changed my mind
Always figured fire blankets were for welding shops and not much else, so I never kept one on my truck. Last Tuesday a slag spill off a test plate caught a rag pile at a job in Gary, Indiana, and a fitter smothered it in about 4 seconds flat while I was still hunting for the extinguisher. The extinguisher would have worked too, but it would have sprayed dry chem over a finished weld pass and cost us a rework. Picked one up that same week and it rides in the cab now. What else am I sleeping on that takes up less space than a 10 pound extinguisher?
