Vent: Old timer dressed me down over a rigging knot 6 years ago
I was working a shutdown at a chemical plant outside Baton Rouge back in 2018. This older boilermaker, must have been 60 something, stopped me cold when I was tying off a choker on a heat exchanger bundle. He said 'son that knot is gonna kill someone before lunch.' Then he showed me his knot and made me redo it 3 times until I got it right in front of the whole crew. Has anyone else had an old timer call them out on something basic like that and it actually saved your butt later?

Jumped right into thinking about all the knots I tied wrong before someone yelled at me, lol. That old dude probably saved you from a real bad day with that heat exchanger bundle going rogue. Bet you never tied that knot wrong again though, silver lining and all that.

Why should that old timer get to decide the one right way to tie a knot? Maybe his method worked for him but yours worked fine too, and he just wanted to feel important by tearing you down in front of everyone. I've seen guys get yelled at for doing things their own way and it was just an ego trip, not real safety advice.
