Took me 6 months to try soapstone for marking and I wish I did it sooner
I used to just scribe everything with a sharpie or a center punch and hope for the best. Then a guy named Jerry on a job in Gary, Indiana showed me how soapstone sticks work on dirty steel and it's WAY more visible, especially under shit lighting. Has anyone else found a marking tool that changed their workflow?

...and then I had a welder buddy who swore by using a broken hacksaw blade. Just scratch the metal with the edge of the blade. Works on rusty, greasy, wet steel. No soap to wear off. Had to get used to scribing backwards though since it cuts a line.

Is it really that serious to worry about scribing backwards @victor_butler50 or does it just work for you lol?
