TIL the hard way why you never trust a rusty chain fall
Last month on a job in Gary, Indiana I hung a 400 pound header using a chain fall that looked fine from a distance. About halfway up I heard this grinding noise and realized the load was creeping down, the brake discs were glazed over from years of dirt. Turns out I was supposed to pop those covers and clean the discs every 6 months, not just when it starts slipping. Anyone else had a near miss with a neglected chain fall, or do I just work with older equipment than you guys?
