Swapped from slag-shield to a passive lens after 20 years and I can actually see my weld puddle now
Fought with a bad weld day near Mobile last spring where I blew through three coupons before a old timer loaned me his hood with a passive shade. That $40 swap saved my eyes and my patience - has anyone else found passive easier on the eyes for long welds?

...and that's the thing, right? People always talk about auto-dark being the future, but if you're fighting with it for 20 years, was it ever really working for you? I had the exact same experience about five years back, borrowed a buddy's passive hood for a day of overhead and suddenly realized I wasn't squinting or craning my neck. So what's the deal - is it the lens quality or just that your brain finally stopped fighting the shade level?

Man, that's the thing about old tools that just work. People get wrapped up in new tech and forget that sometimes the basic version does the job better because it's simpler. Same deal with my dad's old handsaw versus my fancy cordless one - the heavy one never lets you down because there's nothing to break.
