Spent 9 hours on a rolled tube in Pittsburgh, still not sure if I should have scrapped it
Had a 2 inch tube in the lower drum of a recovery boiler in Pittsburgh that kept rolling past where I wanted it, and no matter how I set the torch or cooled it, it walked on me. I burned through 9 hours and three spare stubs before I got one to seat, when the shop sheet said it should take about 90 minutes. Half the crew says I should have cut it out and started fresh after the second fail, the other half says you never scrap a rolled joint once it starts to grab or you risk wallowing the hole. I ended up keeping it and it passed hydro, but I'm still second guessing myself. What's your cutoff for calling a roll a loss and drilling it out?
