Re-thought my whole stance on stick welding after talking to a 30-year veteran at Local 290

Old dude told me he runs 6010 on everything except overhead, showed me a standing seam roof repair he did 12 years ago that still had zero leaks, and now I'm questioning why I've been babying my rods with fancy storage for so long.

Are we really acting like one good repair means you should ditch your rod oven? That's one dude's opinion, not a universal rule.

Traded rods with a guy on a pipeline job once who left his 6010s sitting in a damp truck bed for a week and they ran smoother than my oven-baked ones. Makes you wonder how much of the "keep em dry" stuff is just habits old guys passed down without question. Maybe a critical weld on a pressure vessel gets the oven treatment, but for everyday stuff it might not matter as much as we think.
