My worst Monday ever involved a 50-foot water tower and a dropped wrench

Honestly, last week I was up on this old water tower outside Gary, Indiana, trying to replace a corroded manhole gasket. My favorite 1-inch wrench slipped out of my grip and bounced off the ladder before landing in a muddy ditch below. Has anyone else had a tool take a dive like that and just had to sit there for a minute questioning everything?

Man, that gut feeling when you hear it clatter all the way down is just the worst. I've stood there staring into an engine bay for a full five minutes after dropping a socket into the abyss. Did you at least manage to fish it out of that ditch?

Honestly, is it really that big of a deal? I've dropped plenty of stuff under cars and I just grab a magnet or a stick and it's done. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I don't get why people act like it's a tragedy every time. Ngl, I've left sockets sitting in engine bays for weeks and just grabbed a different one from the set. Unless you're working on something super delicate, it's probably fine. Tbh, I think you guys just like the drama.
