Had the worst Monday of my career last week on a boiler tube repair
I got called to a plant outside of Gary, Indiana to swap out four bad tubes on a watertube boiler. Turns out the previous guy had welded in the wrong grade of tube, so I had to grind out all his work before I could even start. It took me 10 hours just to get the first tube out because the slag was fused so bad. Has anyone else dealt with someone else's hack job making a simple fix take forever?

Yeah but @robinwalker people act like slag is impossible to deal with and it's really not that bad.

I read somewhere that bad prep work on boilers accounts for like half the repair time in the field. Your Indiana job sounds brutal, that slag fusing makes everything ten times harder than it needs to be. Did you end up putting in the right grade tube on the last one or did you have to walk away?
