Changed my mind on using those magnetic weld tabs

I always thought those magnetic weld tabs were a gimmick and just used clamps like everyone else on my crew. But after fighting to line up a 3/8 inch plate on a tank repair last Tuesday, I grabbed a set from the supply closet out of desperation. They held everything dead straight on the first pass and saved me like 20 minutes of fiddling. Anyone else find a tool they swore they'd never use actually works?

Fighting to line up a 3/8 inch plate on a tank repair" - man, that sounds brutal. I honestly can't believe you actually grabbed em out of desperation and they worked that good. Ngl, I still think they're overpriced plastic junk, but hearing they saved you 20 minutes on a tank job makes me wanna give em a shot.

Hold up though, they arent plastic. Theyre actually forged steel with a magnetic base, thats why they work so good on heavy plate like that. I thought the same thing til I looked closer, they feel way heavier than they look. And yeah theyre pricey but you can catch them on sale sometimes. I grabbed a set of the smaller ones for like 30 bucks and theyve paid for themselves ten times over just on tank work alone.
